Vice-Chancellor NED University appreciated and said this solar power project is one of the efforts to make the NED carbon neutral in 2021.

Virtual inauguration of 36 KV Solar Power Project of NED University held at NED university main campus auditorium here Sunday which was gifted by Engineer Ashraf Habibullah, Distinguished Alumnus and CEO, Computers and Structures Incorporated (CSI), USA, NED University will become the first Public sector University which can fulfil its 35 % electricity requirement from this project.

Dean Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Dr Saad Qazi said that such projects offer the concept of “Living Lab” for our students. Computers and Structures Incorporated (CSI) USA Engineer Ashraf Habibullah expressed his love for the beloved homeland by reciting the National Anthem of Pakistan on the occasion of Virtual Inauguration.

Vice-Chancellor NED University Professor Dr Soroush Hashmat Lodhi appreciated the efforts of Ashraf Habibullah and said that this solar power project is one of the efforts to make the NED carbon neutral by reducing carbon footprint in 2021.

He said that such measures could be taken for the betterment of society at all levels including universities while the real goal was to bring the full 3 MW power load of the university to solar soon.

Sohail Bashir, Chairman, Institute of Engineers Pakistan, Karachi, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tufail, Vice-Chancellor, said that the transition to alternative energy sources, including the environment, is friendly to one’s own health.

According to a university spokesman, NED’s solar power project will protect against 42 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to 2300 trees.
The project will generate 52,000 units of electricity annually, saving the university an estimated Rs 1 million annually.

Electricity generated from this initiative will fulfil the requirement of labs first which is 10 to 15 %.

Recently Sind Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ali Sheikh visited NED University solar panel testing lab also and this lab will check the quality of Solar Panels manufacturing by the commercial vendors.
