Yahoo Sports expects to continue streaming NFL games this fall, a source with knowledge of the company’s plans tells SportTechie. NFL games have streamed on the Yahoo Sports mobile app since 2017 through the league’s media rights deal with Verizon, but it was unclear whether Yahoo would continue streaming games after it was recently sold to the private equity firm Apollo Global Management.

Apollo agreed to pay $5 billion for Verizon’s entire media unit, including Yahoo Sports, in a deal that is expected to be finalized later this year. In addition to the Yahoo Sports app, NFL games have also streamed on the Yahoo Fantasy app since 2019 as part of Verizon’s five-year deal with the NFL that expires after the 2022 season.

Beginning with this week’s NBA playoffs, Yahoo’s fantasy app is also launching single-game daily fantasy contests that allow users to submit multiple entries to win cash prizes.

Yahoo, which integrated its mobile apps with BetMGM in 2019, says that more than 90% of BetMGM users who place bets on Yahoo are also active on the Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Fantasy apps.
