The district administration has administered coronavirus vaccine to over 44,000 people in Mansehra.

“Among the vaccinated residents, 4,000 are teachers,” deputy commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan told reporters after inaugurating a mass vaccination centre in a library near the New Circuit House here on Saturday.

He said two of the three proposed centres for tourist vaccination Kaghan valley had been made operational.

Earlier, the DC inaugurated a Covid-19 vaccination centres at the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.

Local MPA Babar Saleem Swati was also present on the occasion.

Dr Qasim said the administration had so far established 12 coronavirus vaccination centres in the district and the number would be taken to over 50.

He said as the schools were reopening on June 7 for in-person learning, vaccination of teachers against the virus had been made mandatory for the health of students and other staff members.

The DC said the administration had established two centres in Kawai and Kaghan areas for the vaccination of visitors to Kaghan valley and another would become operational in Naran on Tuesday.

Dr Qasim said better Covid-19 awareness had led to the influx of people at vaccination centres.

GOVT FLAYED: Provincial emir of the opposition Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman on Saturday accused the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf of victimising political rivals.

During a function at the residence of jailed party leader Mufti Kifayatullah in Tarangri area here, the JUI-F lawmaker said his party along with PDM members would oust the PTI government over flawed policies and political victimisation of rivals.

TWO KILLED: Two tourists were killed and 10 injured in two incidents here on Saturday.

A van carrying a tourist family to Sargodha city fell into a deep ravine in Shogran area of Kaghan valley leaving 11 people, including the driver, critically injured.

The police shifted the injured to the Balakot civil hospital, where the doctors pronounced Mohammad Qasim dead.

They referred driver Yasir Nawaz and other injured, including Mohammad Tuqeer, Mohammad Naeem, Abdul Ghafar, Ali Mohammad, Mohammad Javed, Mohammad Zeeshan, Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Aziz to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.

In another incident, three sisters drowned in the Siren River in Pulrah area.

The incident occurred as they were playing on the riverbank.

The locals rescued two but found the third, Smirah Bibi, 16, dead.

They had come to the river along with family for recreation.
