Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Health Services Academy, met with the National Skills University Islamabad (NSU) Vice Chancellor. All three academic leaders contemplated the importance of public health education and the opening of virology educational and residency programs in Pakistani Higher Education Institutes.

Both the academic leaders presented an appreciation shield to Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, the NSU Vice Chancellor. The CEO of Don Valley Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Shehla Javed Akram, was also present at the appreciation ceremony.

According to Prof. Javed Akram, clinical and molecular virology aided with public health initiatives go hand to hand in controlling viral diseases. We have a limited number of clinical virologists in the country, and as far as molecular virologists are concerned, there are only a few across the globe.

Professor Mukhtar expertise in molecular virology is unparalleled. His contribution in understanding the passage of viruses into the brain and the development of the test tube model of the human brain has been appreciated by the US National Institutes of Health and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, including dozen others.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Mukhtar has participated in over 300 TV and radio programs nationally and internationally. His style of explaining the complexities of virology knowledge in layman language is appreciated across the country.
