Tokyo's Annual Illumination Event Promoting Use Of Renewable Energy

An Annual Illumination Event Promoting The Use Of Renewable Energy Sources Has Started At Tokyo’s Ueno Park.

It is organized by a group that includes the central and Tokyo governments. The aim of the event is to raise awareness about climate change. About 150 lighting devices have been installed at the park. They are all powered by renewable energy.

Large fountains are among the park’s main attractions. On Thursday, they were illuminated with bright green and blue lights to mark the opening of the event. Electricity produced by two hydrogen-fueled vehicles was used to project movies about nature on the wall of the National Museum of Nature and Science. A woman said she was surprised to learn that all the lights were powered by green energy. Lighting designer Ishii Motoko produced the event. She said she hopes it will help promote the use of renewable energy sources.
