The Long March-7 carrier rocket carrying the Tianzhou-4 cargo ship was transported to the launch pad at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in south China’s Hainan Province on Saturday, according to the China Manned Space Engineering Office.

The Tianzhou-4 spacecraft will send tonnes of supplies and propellants to China’s space station for the next six-month stay of the three Shenzhou-14 crew members.

Last month, the Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft was moved to the front docking port of the space station through a computer-orchestrated rendezvous and docking in order for the Tianzhou-4 to dock at the rear port.

The Tianzhou-4 and the Long March-7 carrier rocket will undergo final tests before their planned launch in the coming days.

A total of six space flight missions will be carried out in 2022 to complete the in-orbit construction of China’s space station.

After the launch of the Tianzhou-4 cargo spacecraft, the Shenzhou-14 manned spacecraft will be launched in June. The Wentian lab module will dock with the Tianhe core module in July, and the Mengtian lab module will be docked with the core module in October to complete the in-orbit construction of the space station.

Ultimately, a T-shaped complex will be formed once the construction of the space station is complete.

In addition, China plans to launch its first large Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST), or Xuntian, meaning “survey to heavens,” in 2023.
