Woman dies as cholera outbreak takes ugly turn in Swat The cholera epidemic has taken an ugly turn in Shahu Village of Swat district and a victim woman admitted to hospital breathed her last here on Wednesday. According to the health department, the number of cholera patients has exceeded 400 during the past three days, adding that most of the patients were being treated at Shahu Medical Camp while more than 25 patients were shifted to Saidu Teaching Hospital.

Assistant Commissioner Bahrain, Muhammad Ishaq visited Shahu village and inspected the medical facilities being provided to the patients by the Health Department. On the other hand, medical experts pinpointed use of contaminated water is the major cause of cholera outbreak. “The disease can spread from one area to another for many reasons but to control it, the residents of the area should drink boiled water and the remaining curry should be boiled well and eaten clean”, they advised. The medical experts also urged the public to take special care of hand-washing. However, Swat District Officer Health Dr Muhammad Saleem has directed the Public Health Department to submit an inquiry report to find out the causes of the outbreak and a team of more doctors from Mingora has also been sent to Kalam Valley.
