Merck Foundation ( Merck-Foundation.com ) , the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, organized its first “Training of Health Journalists” via videoconference in Mozambique, in partnership with HE Ms. ISAURA FERRAO NYUSI, Merck foundation conduct first health training, First Mozambican Lady & Ambassador of the Merck Foundation Campaign “More Than a Mother”, Eduardo Mondlane University & National Union of Journalists, Mozambique. The Health Journalists Training was chaired by Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of the Merck Foundation. enator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of the Merck Foundation and President of the Merck Foundation “More Than a Mother” Campaign, emphasized “I am very happy to carry out the first Training of Virtual Health Journalists of our Merck Foundation in Mozambique. We carried out this Health Journalism Training in partnership with my dear sister Her Excellency Mrs. ISAURA FERRAO NYUSI, First Lady of Mozambique & Ambassador of the Merck Foundation Campaign “More Than a Mother” together with Eduardo Mondlane University and National Union of Journalists, Mozambique.The purpose of this important training program was to emphasize the important role that the media plays in influencing our society to create cultural change with the aim of breaking the stigma of infertility, supporting girls’ education, empowering women, ending marriage child, ending FGM and/or ending GBV at all levels; underline the importance of Empowering Girls and Women in Education and understanding the influence of infertility stigma and other social issues such as GBV, Child Marriage, FGM etc. in women and couples – Social and Psychological Impact. In addition, it will also include the importance of raising awareness about the early detection and prevention of Diabetes and Hypertension.”

Merck foundation conduct first health training, The Merck Foundation Health Media Training is part of the Merck Foundation Community Awareness Program “More Than a Mother” and they were expert speakers from the medical community and the media. Present were Mozambican journalists who work for the Press, Television, Radio and Online Media, Journalism and Medicine students. The Merck Foundation, in partnership with the First Lady of Mozambique and the Ministry of Health, works closely to develop Diabetes Care Capacity in Mozambique through its ‘National Diabetes Blue Points Programme’, and has awarded 14 Scholarships to Young Mozambican Doctors for a 3-month Online Master’s Course in Diabetes endorsed by Diabetes UK for the first time in Portuguese for medical graduates, one from each province of Mozambique. Upon completion of these courses, these Doctors should be able to set up a diabetes clinic in their Health Center or Hospital with the aim of helping to prevent and manage the disease in their respective communities. During the Health Journalists Training, the Merck Foundation in partnership with the First Lady of Mozambique also announced the Call for Applications for 8 major awards for media, musicians, fashion designers, filmmakers, Mozambican students and new talents with potential in these areas.
