United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has increased the number of mobile clinics in flood-ravaged cities across Pakistan. Reports quoting sources privy to the matter say the UN body will increase 15 health clinics in northern areas of Sindh with the cooperation of the provincial government. “The number of UNICEF-run clinics in such areas has now increased to 66,” they reported, adding that currently, 18 clinics are operational in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa each and 15 in Balochistan. The decision to increase the number of healthcare facilities was made after an increase in water-borne diseases in damaged areas.

“More cases of skin diseases, nutritional deficiencies, diarrhoea and malaria are being reported from flood-hit areas,” the reports said. Meanwhile, a UNICEF report highlighted the unprecedented rains have broken the 30-year rainfall record and resulted in 1,400 deaths, including 400 children, while 1.1 million homes, 18,000 schools and 160 bridges have been damaged since July.United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has increased the number of mobile clinics in flood-ravaged cities across Pakistan.
