Director General of Population Welfare Department Punjab Saman Roy has termed rising population serious threat for country’s progress and development. Rising population serious threat to country’s development , Talking to Radio Pakistan Lahore’s correspondent Sajjad Parvaz in a Current Affairs Programme on Tuesday, she said that population welfare department has established family clinics in thirty-six districts of Punjab. She said that family planning clinics are providing free-of-cost services, including contraceptive medicine, counselling and motivation towards family planning. She said five regional training centres are offering diploma courses with two years duration to young females.

After the successful completion of these courses, these female students will become lady health workers. She said that mobile service units of population welfare department are actively working under the supervision of qualified lady doctors with an aim to create awareness about population control in remote areas. rising population serious threat to country’s development, She said that government is committed to addressing the issue of population on priority basis and her department will start awareness campaigns in local languages through Radio Pakistan soon. Replying to a question, she said that high rate of population casts negative impacts on country’s economic growth and management of resources.
