Chinese scientists adopt high-tech techniques in monkey conservation

Chinese scientists have conducted a more efficient, precise census of endangered wild golden snub-nosed monkeys in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province., They adopted advanced technologies such as thermal imaging and facial recognition. Living atop tall trees deep in the mountains, monkey conservation, these monkeys are rarely spotted with traditional infrared cameras, let alone identified or counted. After years of exploration, researchers discovered that drone-mounted thermal imaging cameras helped to make the monkeys more easily detectable. An accurate facial recognition technique specially designed for animals has also been implemented in the field.
