World Internet Conference highlights latest achievements in global IT sector

The 2022 World Internet Conference is underway in east China’s Wuzhen City. The event presents the latest Internet technologies and hosts industry insiders from across the world. Feng Yilei reports.

This year’s Wuzhen Summit presents the latest technological advancements and innovations in various fields such as 5G and 6G, IPv6, high-performance chips, and digital twin.

A newly released Blue Book for the World Internet Conference, compiled by the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies, suggests global Internet has been zigzagging along in the past year.

LI YINGXIN Vice President, Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies “On a global scale, we have seen high-tech breakthroughs, wide application and penetration, and interdisciplinary innovation in different fields. High performance computing continues to be upgraded. Generative artificial intelligence and synthetic data are heating up rapidly. The rise of Chiplet has opened up a new technological path for the chip industry. Open source has become a crucial innovation channel for global scientific and technological progress.”

FENG YILEI Wuzhen “What’s even more important about these cutting-edge technologies, is the changes they are likely to bring to people’s daily life, and social governance. Chinese President Xi Jinping noted the increasing role of digital technology in all domains and the whole process of economic and social development, as he congratulated this year’s Wuzhen Summit.”

Experts say in the face of the far-reaching impacts of the pandemic, as well as the sluggish recovery of the world economy, unbalanced development in the Internet sector has become increasingly prominent.

And China has its own solutions to offer.

WU HEQUAN Chinese Academy of Engineering “When we talk about building a community with a shared future in cyberspace, we seek to uphold world peace and order and make active contributions to global development. This is China’s position, and we hope that this position will influence and lead the world to a real economic recovery. Through the World Internet Conference, we not only promote China’s position on this issue, but also practice openness and cooperation.”

China’s stance was echoed by participants from rest of the world.

MALCOLM JOHNSON ITU Deputy Secretary-General “We just have seven years left to achieve the UN sustainable development goals which will depend so much on Information and communication technologies. Going forward, the key words will be collaboration, coordination, and cooperation.”

And that cooperation has already produced some results, in, for example, the cyber security sector.

ALVIN CHENG General Manager for Greater China, Kaspersky “One of our projects was recognized as a leading technological achievement at the Wuzhen Summit. It’s a joint project with domestic manufacturers, who take security into consideration when designing hardware. Kaspersky is one of the companies that detect the most APT attacks in the world. We are now willing to use our technology to work with Chinese regulatory agencies or laboratories to help build up capabilities to proactively detect cyber-attacks.”

The WIC has pledged to set up a platform for sharing scientific, technological, and industrial application achievements in the global Internet industry. Feng Yilei, CGTN, Wuzhen.
