Minister Inaugurates Comsats University Campus Quetta

The Federal Minister of Science and Technology, on Friday, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting scientific and technical education in the country, while speaking at the opening ceremony for the Comsats University Campus Quetta, which was held here at the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) Complex.

Dr. Shahnaz Naseer Baloch, Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Syed Hussain Abidi, Chairman of PCSIR, Dr. Muhammad Tabassum Afzal, Rector CUI, Mir Farooq Langove, JS MoST, Dr. Jan Muhammad Baloch, VC of Turbat University, Dr. Sajida Noreen, VC of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman, VC of Balochistan University, Prof. Naeem Shahwani, Dean BUITEMS and several official and political dignitaries were also present.

The minister emphasised that the promotion of scientific and technical education was the current government’s top priority, particularly in the Balochistan region. “The establishment of the Comsats University Campus Quetta will play a critical role in enabling our younger generation to compete at the national and international levels in science and technology,” he said.

The minister praised the efforts of the PCSIR chairman and the CUI rector for providing full cooperation in carrying out the noble cause. Hassan also pledged his full support for budget allocation in order for the campus to be operational by March 2023.

He also emphasised his recent initiatives, since taking office as federal minister, for the advancement and prosperity of the Balochistan community, particularly the educational scholarship scheme. He announced that employees of PCSIR and PSTC, Quetta, will be able to work from home, and that a special budget of Rs 20 million will be set aside for this purpose.

Furthermore, fee concessions for PSTC and Quetta students will be considered at an appropriate level and announced in due course. In addition, the minister announced the installation of a Solar Tube Well on the PSTC Campus using his own funds.

In her speech, the parliamentary secretary stressed the importance of higher education and expressed hope that with the establishment of a new campus here, Balochistan’s youth would be able to demonstrate their abilities in the fields of science and technology in general, and country development in particular.

The PCSIR chairman, in his welcome speech, assured his full cooperation for the progress of the province, and the CUI rector also assured that the new campus “will be on par with other campuses in the country.”
