Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC), Mian Kashif Ashfaq, who quoted the World Economic Forum that more than a billion people, including Pakistan, will need to be re-skilled on modern lines by 2030 in order to meet the ever-increasing demand for skilled workforce.

Mian Kashif Ashfaq, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC), emphasized the importance of implementing result-oriented prudent measures and providing opportunities for skill development to the workforce on Sunday. He stated that keeping up with current technology trends has become an absolute necessity for any workforce anywhere in the world.

He stated that the industrial sector in Pakistan was facing a severe shortage of skilled workforce, which was affecting the delivery schedule of export shipments.

Speaking at a workshop on “The Role of Skill Development in the Economy,” he stated that modern technology is growing at an exponential rate, with new breakthroughs appearing every day and disrupting traditional work practises.

According to him, continuous process improvement, followed by innovations, has compelled him to change and adapt new business models. As a result, he claims, it has created a skills gap in which the skills offered do not match the skills required by employers to meet future global challenges in local and international markets.

Mian Kashif stated that women, who make up 48 percent of the population, must be given equal access to modern technical skills and tools in order to contribute to national economic development, which will also help to close the skill gap while providing ample job opportunities.

He said that Pakistan’s current literacy rate is around 62.3 percent, implying that 60 million people are unable to read or write. He further stated that illiterate people can be trained in the furniture industry and other sectors, such as construction, by providing the necessary training rather than wasting a large segment of society.

According to its website, the Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) is a “non-profit, balanced coalition of furniture manufacturers and designers formed to promote sustainable practises through the best networking and education in our industry.”

It offers assistance and education and works to establish sustainability standards for professionals in the furniture industry. The mission of PFC is to promote the furniture trade in Pakistan and to represent the interests of furniture designers, manufacturers, and retailers.
