COMSTECH Biennial Awards Recognize Researchers' Scientific Work

COMSTECH bestows biennial awards to distinctive researchers from OIC member states for their significant scientific contributions.

Lifetime achievement awards in the basic sciences are given by COMSTECH in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Nominations for this year’s awards in Physics and Mathematics are being sought. In this category, each award consists of a certificate, shield of honour, and cash prize of US$8000.

There are four categories for the COMSTECH Biennial Awards for Excellence in Science and Technology: COMSTECH Young Investigator Award (under 40 years), Best Scientific Book (Authorship)—published by an international publisher within the last two years (2021 and 2022), Patent—registered within the last five years (2018–2022). Each of the above three awards carries a certificate, a shield of honour, and a cash prize of US$4000.

The Best Research Paper awards are given for the best paper published in an impact factor international journal in the last two years (2021 and 2022) in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. The best research paper award in each discipline comes with a certificate, a shield of honour, and a cash prize of $2500 USD.

The deadline for application submission is March 31, 2023, and citizens of all 57 OIC states are eligible to apply for the COMSTECH Awards.

The COMSTECH Executive Committee decided in its 15th meeting in 1996 to institute awards to recognise outstanding research work carried out by scientists who are citizens of, and working in, OIC member states. Each award comes with a certificate, a shield of honour, and a cash prize.

COMSTECH, the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation), was established by the Third Islamic Summit of the OIC held at Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in January 1981. COMSTECH is chaired by Pakistan’s President.

COMSTECH’s core mandate is to strengthen cooperation among OIC Member States in science and technology (S&T) and to enhance their capabilities through training in emerging areas, to undertake follow-up actions and implementation of OIC resolutions, and to develop programmes and submit proposals to increase the capability of Muslim countries in science and technology (S&T).

The ultimate goal is to create and sustain a scientific culture, as well as use science and technology as major contributors to socioeconomic development and rapid industrialization.
