Sinovac Proposal of How Plasma Benefits patients Is Under Review

Punjab Health Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi stated that the technical advisory committee of the Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority had reviewed the proposals of the Sinovac company on Monday. He said that for the first time, the latest technology would be utilized in the country for benefits of plasma patients.

A Sinovac Company delegation met with the Punjab Health Secretary here and exchanged ideas on how to make plasma benefits for patients.

According to the Secretary, the government is reviewing proposals to sign an agreement with the Sinovac company on how to make plasma benefits for patients. He stated that all officers involved had been directed to work with Sinovac in accordance with the rules and regulations.

Sinovac Biotech Ltd. is a Chinese biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Beijing’s Haidian District that specialises in the research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of vaccines that protect against human infectious diseases.

The Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority, established under the Punjab Transfusion of Safe Blood Ordinance, 1999, remained dormant until 2013 due to financial, logistical, and human resource constraints. Under the current administration, the Authority began operations in 2013 and immediately set about developing guidelines, tools, forms, and formats for its functions.

Following that, the Authority announced through print media that all blood establishments were required to register with the Authority within a certain time frame, failing which establishments would face legal action. As a result, the Authority began accepting applications and was able to begin the process of registering blood establishments.

Plasma is commonly given to patients suffering from trauma, burns, or shock, as well as those suffering from severe liver disease or multiple clotting factor deficiencies. It increases the patient’s blood volume, which helps prevent shock and aids in blood clotting.

Plasma is used by pharmaceutical companies to create treatments for conditions such as immune deficiencies and bleeding disorders.
