NUMS and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in South Korea have agreed to collaborate in indigenous vaccines development in Pakistan through technology transfer.

The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in South Korea have agreed to collaborate in indigenous vaccines development in Pakistan through technology transfer and capacity building of Pakistani scientists, according to a press release.

A delegation from NUMS led by Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI(M) met with Dr. Jerome H Kim, Director General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) South Korea, and his team in Seoul on Tuesday.

“Both sides agreed to cooperate in areas of capacity building, including on-site training for a group of Pakistani scientists as well as technology transfer for vaccines development in Pakistan,” according to a message from Seoul received here. This agreement was reached following a meeting in Seoul between a NUMS delegation led by Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir and IVI Director General Dr Jerome H Kim and his team.

The vice chancellor presented Dr. Jerome H. Kim with the NUMS shield, while NUMS Dean Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies Dr. Prof. Aisha Mohyuddin and Consultant Strategic Planning and Development Jaweed Akhtar were also present.

Meanwhile, in another initiative, NUMS and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s University of Mostar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (DOC) on Monday in Mostar (Sarajevo) to promote scientific research and academic cooperation. During his visit to Bosnia, NUMS vice chancellor and rector of the Bosnian and Herzegovina University of Mostar (SUM), Prof. Zoran Tomic, Ph.D., signed the DOU.

Maj Gen (r) Akhtar Jamil Rao HI (M), Pakistan’s ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Prof. Aisha Mohyuddin, Dean NUMS Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, and Dr. Lalarukh, Consultant Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), were also present.

The DOU envisioned “the areas and matters of mutual cooperation, as well as the forms and manners in which it will be implemented.”

Under the DOU, both universities can choose their staff members for participation in the staff exchange “With the aim of studying or lecturing at the other university on a reciprocal basis.” Both parties agreed to invite professors from the other university to give lectures or consult for a set period of time or to select one or more of their employees for mutual visits to improve study or research at their respective institutions.

According to the DOU, the universities will exchange students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in relevant fields of study.
