Five Days Hands On Training On Cheese Making Concludes At UVAS

The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, in collaboration with the Livestock and Dairy Development Department of Punjab (L&DD), organised the closing ceremony of a five-day hands-on cheese making training.

Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Chairman Department of Parasitology, and Dr. Sajjad, Director General Research Livestock Department, co-chaired the training’s closing ceremony and distributed certificates to participants, while Project Director Dr. Muhammad Junaid and 25 participants and professionals from the public and private sectors, including dairy farmers, veterinary officers, dieticians, and consultants, were present.

During the five-day training, experts imparted theoretical and practical knowledge, techniques, and skills to participants on food safety management systems in the dairy industry, the introduction of cheese and the role of pasteurization in cheese production, a practical demonstration of the production of soft and hard artisan cheese, nutritional facts and health benefits of cheese, fostering entrepreneurship through business incubation, industry analysis, market strategy, promotion, and advertisement, and fostering entrepreneurship through business incubation.

Previously, Prof. Dr. Kauser Abdullah Malik visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore’s newly established Genomic Centre.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad welcomed the delegate and informed him about the establishment of a genomic centre in the parasitology department with funding from HEC Pakistan in GCF-273.

Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Chairman of the Department of Parasitology, Prof. Dr. Imran Rashid, and Dr. Haroon Akbar were also in attendance. Prof Kauser paid a visit to Prof Imran’s team, which is led by Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, and praised them.

Cheese making is a craft that requires both knowledge and skills. It is important to note that making cheese require some specific equipment and ingredients, and it can take time and practice to perfect the craft. A good training program covers the science behind cheese making, the equipment and ingredients needed, and the hands-on skills required to make different types of cheeses.
