Sweden To Expand Cooperation With Technology Sector in Pakistan

Sweden is eager to expand its cooperation with Technology sector in Pakistan, according to the Swedish Ambassador Henrik Persson. He also invited Pakistani IT and telecom firms to participate in a roadshow in Sweden.

The Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications met with a Swedish delegation led by the Swedish Ambassador in Islamabad on Thursday.  The delegation includes CEOs of Swedish technology companies who were briefed on initiatives of the IT and telecom sector of Pakistan.

“Pakistan has a conducive environment for investment, especially in the IT and telecom sectors,” the Minister said, adding that steps are being taken to introduce Pakistan as a brand in the world.

According to a handout issued by the ministry, the meeting covered topics of mutual interest in information and communication technology (ICT). During the meeting, the minister stated that Pakistan is eager to assist Swedish companies in the IT and telecom sectors.

The visiting delegation discussed the use of technology in the areas of health and education. The delegation was of the view that artificial intelligence (AI) can help tackle issues such as climate change and food insecurity. The delegation also expressed satisfaction with the projects undertaken by the ministry.

Artificial intelligence has the potential to play a significant role in addressing climate change. AI-powered technologies can be used to monitor and predict weather patterns, optimize energy usage, and identify and reduce carbon emissions, among other things.

In a separate statement, the Embassy of Sweden in Pakistan said that the Swedish companies discussed opportunities and challenges linked with the digital policies, and presented policy recommendations that could help improve businesses, economy, and the environment.

Representatives of Swedish companies Ericsson, Talkpool, BIMA Pakistan, Need Insights, and Synavos participated in the meeting.

The minister ensured full cooperation with Swedish technology companies in the IT and telecom sectors. The Swedish delegation presented various proposals on the use of technology in education, health, agriculture, and other fields.
