Minister Launches Self Enumeration Portal To Conduct Digital Census

The “SELF ENUMERATION PORTAL” for the 7th Population and Housing Census, 2023, which the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) will conduct, was launched on Monday by the federal minister of information technology and telecommunications.

A paradigm shift in favor of digitization is represented by the upcoming 7th Population and Housing Census. One of the improvements and conveniences that this digital census has brought to the Pakistani statistical system is self-enumeration.

It is simple to enter household data through the Self Enumeration portal. Pakistan will be the first nation in South Asia to offer the option of self-enumeration once this milestone is reached.

Dr. Naeem Uz Zafar, the chief census commissioner, evaluated the attendees of the ceremony. He added that real-time monitoring, complaint management software, geotagging, tablet-based data collection, and computer-assisted telephone interviews for quality assurance will link the entire process with credibility, dependability, and transparency.

He was grateful for PBS’s and the partners’ tireless efforts, which allowed them to reach this milestone. The participants heard from Muhammad Sarwar Gondal, a member of Resource Management and Support Services, about the background and efforts put forth to realise the goal of the Digital Census in Pakistan.

PBS included all stakeholders in the process from planning to results finalisation in order to give it credibility. He went on to say that the Census’ main goal is data-driven policymaking and planning. PBS implemented the smart lockdown using data from the 2017 Census.

He explained that self-enumeration is for their convenience since they can enter their family’s information by following a few simple steps. These actions To self-enumerate, go to the portal (https://self.pbs.gov.pk). Create a secure login and password by using a mobile number to sign up or register.

Provide the following information on the census form: family information, housing information, and respondent information. Before submitting the census form, check the information, confirm it, and make any necessary edits. Following the completion of the questionnaire, a UTN will be generated, saved in your portal, and sent via SMS to your registered mobile number. During field enumeration, census enumerators will confirm this UTN.

Mr. Tariq Malik, the chairman of NADRA, praised the team’s efforts in keeping to the deadlines. On a war footing, 126,000 devices were prepared and distributed in a short period of time. In order to reach the enormous milestone of Self Enumeration, minister thanked PBS and stakeholders (NADRA, SUPARCO, Provincial Governments, Armed Forces, and the NTC).

He continued by saying that it is encouraging that a system has been established that can accurately and transparently count the population of Pakistan. The Self-Enumeration Portal, on the other hand, is only the beginning of the Census Data Collection process. He hoped that because of how hard every organisation has been working to achieve this goal, the outcomes would be delivered on time.

In a ceremony, “Tum he Se Hai Tumhara Kal,” the official Census song, was also debuted. PBS, MindMap Communications Pvt. Ltd., and Bajao, one of Pakistan’s fastest-growing music streaming services, worked together to organise an online song competition with the theme Tum He Se Hai Tumhara Kal in an effort to engage online audiences on social media.

Online users were urged to submit their song entries and use the slogan. The song entry with the most likes on the Bajao Music App wins the competition. The launch of the Self Enumeration portal marks the start of the paradigm shift towards digitization that PBS aimed to accomplish with this digital census.
