Speaking at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) Ministerial Conference in Barcelona, Spain, the federal minister for information technology and telecommunications said connectivity projects worth billions of rupees were being implemented in remote areas, and the government was committed to closing the digital divide between rural and urban areas.

An announcement stated that a delegation from Pakistan, consisting of Member International Coordination Ajmal Anwar Awan, DG Wireless, MoITT Jahanzeb Rahim, and CEO Universal Service Fund (USF) Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, attended the ministerial conference with the theme “The path to building digital nations in the Asia Pacific: policies and strategies for a sustainable digital future.”

The government’s top priority, according to the minister, is the provision of high-quality network facilities and the protection of cellular users’ rights. He added that actions were being taken to advance the telecom industry and address the problems facing mobile companies.

The minister stated that the digitalization process was being carried out in order to realise the vision for a “Digital Pakistan.” He also said that crucial actions were being taken in the telecom sector, including the sharing of infrastructure, spectrum, and a framework for spectrum refarming.

He claimed that the government’s ministry of IT and telecom had been working with other agencies to raise digital literacy levels all over the nation. He continued that numerous initiatives have been made to raise digital literacy levels by emphasising the development of startup cultures and the promotion of freelancing.

On the fringes of the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2023, a delegation from Pakistan led by the Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication met with the Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), Deemah Al-Yahya.

Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Minister for IT said that the Government of Pakistan desired to build a strategic partnership with DCO to leverage the true potential of ICT for socio-economic growth in the region. He claimed that Pakistan was working to increase its exports of IT to DCO members.
