13 Pakistani Universities Attend Education Expo Held In Colombo

Up to 13 Pakistani universities participated in an education expo held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where they gave students information about opportunities for higher education in their nation.

Three days of events were held at the Higher Education Expo and Convention Center in Colombo by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo. 13 universities from Pakistan’s public sector attended the expo, according to a press release from HEC.

In order to raise awareness of the opportunities for higher education available to Sri Lankan students in Pakistan, particularly the Allama Iqbal Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students under the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme, HEC officials, under the direction of the commission’s project director, Jehanzeb Khan, organised two exclusive seminars.

Different questions about the scholarship programme, Pakistan’s educational system, and the resources available to international students were raised by students and faculty.

The press release stated that retired Maj Gen Umar Farooq Burki, the high commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, attended the event and was pleased with the arrangements made at the location by HEC.

In addition to efforts to improve cooperation through higher education expo and the establishment of a Centre of Asian Civilization in Sri Lanka, the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme provides scholarships to Sri Lankan students, opportunities for student and faculty exchange, and professional training for Sri Lankan government officials.

Sri Lankan students have the opportunity to attend the top universities in Pakistan thanks to HEC’s Allama Iqbal Scholarships (BS, MS, PhD).

From undergraduate to doctoral levels, 800 fully funded and 200 partially funded scholarships will be made available to Sri Lankan students under the programme. 330 fully funded scholarships have already been given out; 11 of these recipients are currently working in Sri Lanka after finishing their degrees.

The Pakistani universities which took part in the expo included Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Sindh, Iqra University, Karachi, University of the Punjab, Lahore, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, University of Agriculture (UAF), Faisalabad, Lahore University of Management Sciences (Lums), University of Lahore, Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Peshawar, National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Islamabad, and Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad.

High-ranking representatives from Sri Lanka’s bureaucracy, including Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara, Advisor to the Minister of Education, and other dignitaries, paid a visit to the Pakistan pavilion. According to a press release, they appreciated the scholarship program’s initiatives as well as the HEC and Pakistani governments’ efforts to improve the educational capacity of Sri Lankan youth.
