The German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK) and LMKT (Private) Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the visit to discuss ways to connect the startup and tech communities of Pakistan and Germany.

The National Incubation Centre Karachi (NIC Karachi) was visited by a delegation from the German Consulate Karachi and the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK) to observe Pakistan’s advancements in business innovation and the startup entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the delegation, which included Muhammad Usman, Country Director of Pakistan at AHK UAE, and Heena Nazir, Director of Germany Trade and Invest, as well as Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany (GTAI).

To promote Germany as a startup destination for Pakistani startups, LMKT and AHK will work together on the Startup Germany Tour programme. They will also look into the possibility of hosting a startup hackathon in Pakistan in collaboration with business communities of Germany and diplomatic missions there.

The parties will also work to develop ways to link German and Pakistani startups via a side event at tech and startup events in the UAE, like GITEX.

Director of Strategy LMKT Faisal Jamil expressed his enthusiasm for the MoU by saying, “To encourage international cooperation, we are thrilled to collaborate with the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce. The free exchange of ideas across borders is essential for innovation, and we anticipate that this collaboration will give startups in both nations a fantastic platform to interact, share knowledge, and look for business opportunities.”

Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, stated: “We are grateful for the chance to visit NIC Karachi several times in such a short period of time and to experience firsthand the amazing energy and innovation of the startups and entrepreneurs working here. In the future, we look forward to strengthening our alliances and looking into fresh possibilities for cooperation.”

The partnership was also praised by Oliver Oehms, CEO of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce, who said, “Partnerships like this one between Karachi and German cities are a potent way to spur development and innovation in an increasingly interconnected world. We can improve our economies and open up new opportunities by cooperating and sharing knowledge for the good of all.”

The signing of the MoU with NICs run by LMKT will foster increased cooperation between Pakistani and German startups, according to Sana Shah, Head of the Program at the National Incubation Centre Karachi. “NIC Karachi is honoured to have hosted the esteemed delegation from the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK),” she continued.

The visit came to an end with a tour of the NIC Karachi by the German consulate and discussions between startups and the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK) and the consulate general about the value of innovation and research collaboration in building robust and interconnected business ecosystems.

The MoU’s signing is a step towards fortifying ties between Pakistan’s and Germany’s startup ecosystems, and LMKT anticipates further cooperation to support the expansion and development of startups in the area.
