Over 2,700 Mineral Deposits Receive Geo-Tags Under Mines App

More than 2,700 mineral deposits have been geo-tagged under the Chief Inspectorate of Mines App created by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for the Punjab Minerals Department, and 14 inspectors stationed in 7 different regions have conducted more than 850 inspections.

This was stated during a meeting at Arfa Software Technology Park that was presided over by PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf (ASTP). Senior officials from the PITB, including Director Atif Hussain and Additional Director General (ADG) Qasim Ifzal, also attended the meeting.

The meeting’s attendees were informed that PITB has assisted the Department of Minerals in digitising all mineral mine deposits and conducting inspections via mobile phones in a paperless setting. The system also makes it easier for the department to monitor the availability of emergency rescue equipment at the mine.

The procedure has been streamlined and digitalized under the Chief Inspectorate of Mines System to allow for online monitoring of mining rule violations. Additionally, the app includes a quick alert feature in case of any unforeseen circumstance or accident. Chairman Faisal Yousaf stated that the Department of Minerals has moved towards digitization, which significantly reduces the amount of time needed to complete various tasks.

The Chief Inspectorate of Mines is a department that is attached to the Mines & Minerals Department of the Government of the Punjab. It has two operational wings: the Inspectorate of Mines and the Mines Labor Welfare Organization.

Regarding the protection of the safety, health, and welfare of mine workers, the roles of the two wings are interconnected. However, the Mines Labour Welfare Organization handles the facilitation of mining labour while the Inspectorate of Mines handles the regulatory aspect.

Under the provisions of the Mines Act of 1923, Rules and Regulations made thereunder, and other laws pertaining to mining labour, the Inspectorate of Mines, Punjab, is led by the Chief Inspector of Mines (an officer of BS-20), who is responsible for ensuring the safety and regulation of mines as well as the safety, health, and welfare of mine workers.
