In the Imagine Cup 2023 finals for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), the team from FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES), Peshawar, won the Health Category Award for their project.

The project “Genetic Subtype of MGMT Prediction and MRI” employs genetics and MRI scans to determine the subtype of the MGMT gene, which is linked to cancer treatment response.

Doctors could identify the patient’s genetic subtype of the MGMT gene and develop more individualised treatment plans by analysing both the patient’s MRI and genetic data.

Microsoft has provided $2500 and one-on-one mentoring sessions to the FAST-NUCES team who won the Health Category Award for their project .

The Imagine Cup regional winners and runners-up at the national level were announced for nine additional university teams from various parts of Pakistan on March 21 at a ceremony co-hosted by Microsoft and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

Dr. Salim M. Almalik, director general of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), attended the ceremony as the main guest.
