Amirudin Shari, the Selangor menteri besar, will lead a delegation of 11 carefully chosen Malaysian tech startups to a series of investment and pitching events in the US.

The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) announced today that these startups have been chosen to attend the Maryland-based 2023 SelectUSA Investment Summit from May 1 to May 4.

The SelectUSA Investment Summit, which will be presided over by President Joe Biden, is anticipated to give Malaysian tech startups the chance to network with foreign venture capitalists (VCs), investors, and potential business partners in person.

The US Department of Commerce organised the showcase, which offered a venue for international businesses and economic development organisations from all 51 US states to forge trade and investment ties.

Sidec noted that Amirudin and state executive councillor for industry and trade Teng Chang Khim will also take part in roundtable discussions on investments hosted by the California governor’s office and the US Department of Commerce.Asia Mobility Technologies, iMotorbike, ALPS Global Holding, Virtualtech Frontier, Boxcube, Entomal, Revenue Monster Group, QMed, Accendo Technologies, Kiddocare, and Pod are the selected startups at the moment. Smart transportation, metaverse, smart healthcare, biotechnology, gig economy platforms, environmental, social, and governance sustainability innovation, human resource technology, financial technology, and tourism technology are among the industries that the 11 Malaysian technology startups cover.

A number of Malaysian investment firms and venture capital funds, including Penjana Kapital, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd, The Hive Southeast Asia, The SEA Capital, and Sterling Equity, will accompany them, according to Sidec.

These 11 startups will also take part in a pitch competition, which is being held at the Malaysian Embassy in Washington for the first time.

Around 30 startup founders from Singapore and Taiwan are anticipated to attend, along with 70 business and political leaders, students, and members of the Malaysian expat community. According to more than 100 guests who have confirmed their attendance, the event is already fully booked, Sidec said.

These Malaysian tech startups are scheduled to visit Silicon Valley beginning on May 4 in order to meet with several VCs and foreign startups that have already established themselves in the US after taking part in pitching events in Washington and Maryland.

The itinerary for the trip is jam-packed with activities, such as investor roundtable meetings, industrial tours, and visits to Draper University, which was established by Tim Draper, the renowned VC Guru of Silicon Valley.

The most active early-stage venture capital fund, 500 Global, along with other international VCs like The Hive USA, March Capital, and Piva Capital will participate in a roundtable discussion with these startups, according to Sidec.

It also mentioned that successful Malaysian serial entrepreneurs based in Silicon Valley would assist in setting up meetings between early-stage startups and potential investors.
