Health Minister Calls For Efforts To Eliminate Vaccine Preventable Diseases

The health department has urged parents to ensure that their children receive immunisation in order to protect children from 12 diseases that can be prevented by vaccination.

The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) of the health department distributed the message in conjunction with World Immunization Week.

According to EPI Director Dr. Mohammad Arif Khan, the immunisation week started on April 24 and will end on April 30. Its objective is to increase public understanding of the importance of immunisation for children.

The Big Catch-Up is the week’s theme this year. It’s an opportunity to spread the word about how important it is to find and immunise any children who have missed out on vaccines that could have protected them from disease, disability, and even death.

Additionally, this week is intended to place a stronger emphasis on immunisation at all levels so that everyone can get immunised at once and benefit from better health and welfare services.

Every year, the last week of April is recognised as World Immunization Week, during which a vaccination drive is carried out across the province to educate people about the value and effectiveness of immunisation in preventing 12 serious diseases.

Dr. Arif urged parents to immunise their young children up to the age of two in order to protect them from 12 dangerous diseases, including tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, cough, tetanus, meningitis, Hepatitis B, diarrhoea, pneumonia, typhoid, measles, and rubella.

According to Dr. Inamullah Khan, a health expert for Unicef, 60% of children in tribal districts and 49% of children in all other districts did not finish their vaccination course because their parents were unaware of how important vaccinations were.

The vaccine, according to him, was 100 percent safe. He urged the parents to see to it that their kids received the necessary vaccinations to protect their future and give them the best chance at a healthy and happy life.
