Lahore, Pakistan’s provincial capital, will reportedly be the first city in Asia and Pakistan to have environmentally friendly roads when the “Blue Road” concept is implemented.

The Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), also known as the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority  (PCBDDA), is working on the proposal. Officials claimed that the plan was intended to modernise the city’s infrastructure and raise the citizens’ standard of living.

Blue Roads, a sustainable alternative to traditional asphalt roads, incorporate energy-saving features and heat observation. This will promote a cleaner environment and help reduce pollution.

The use of a specialised coating on these cutting-edge roads reduces the amount of heat that the road surface absorbs from the sun. Additionally, the reflective coating increases nighttime driver visibility, enhancing traffic safety.

Imran Amin, CEO of CBD Punjab, was given the go-ahead by the interim chief minister to execute the project on schedule according to sources who spoke with the publication.

Imran Amin stated his opinions by saying, “We are eager to introduce Pakistan to the Blue Road concept, which has already been successfully implemented in a number of European and Middle Eastern nations, including the Netherlands, France, and Qatar. This project will benefit the environment by reducing pollution, conserving energy, and observing the temperature, but it will also advance our goal of building a contemporary, sustainable, and inclusive society in Punjab.”

According to Amin, his organisation is dedicated to completing projects that raise the living conditions for its citizens. The authority was launching a number of initiatives to modernise the city’s infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for its residents, including the introduction of the Blue Road concept.

Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA), also referred to as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab), is a legally recognised organisation established to create and promote vertically oriented, environmentally friendly urban regeneration projects.

Based on development as economic advancement and its potential to create jobs across a range of industries, a pre-financial feasibility estimate of between PKR 2700 billion and 3000 billion has been made.
