The Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) of the Federal Government has requested Rs 5.5 billion for the Science and Technology Sector schemes for the fiscal year 2023–2024.

According to the PSDP document, the federal government has proposed Rs 5,025 million for 31 ongoing schemes of Science and Technology, Rs 449 million for 8 new schemes, and Rs 25 million for two unapproved Science and Technology Division schemes under PSDP for the next financial year.

The Federal Government has proposed Rs. 150 million for the SME Certification Incentive Program and Rs. 14.8 million for Cloud Enabled Infrastructure, according to the PSDP document. The Competitive Research Program has a budget of Rs. 190 million, and the Medical and Industrial Cannabis Project has a budget of Rs. 300 million.

In addition, Rs. 40 million and Rs. 463 million have been suggested for the production of biochemicals and bioproducts, respectively, and Rs.

The government has proposed Rs. 300 million for the construction of the Material Resource Centre and Reverse Engineering Center at PCSIR, compared to Rs. 200 million for PCSIR’s digital transformation and automation. The Failure Analysis Centre is being proposed to be established with Rs. 150 million.

Separately, funds totaling Rs. 217 million have been proposed for the Center for International Peace and Stability at NUST, Rs. 30 million have been put forth for the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Health Science, and Rs. 350 million have been proposed for the Research and Development of Indigenous Electromedical Devices at NUST.

A total of Rs. 290.8 million has been proposed for the establishment of facilities for the industrial production of nanomaterials, along with Rs. 52.9 million for the establishment of a Pak Korea PV Module Testing Facility, Rs. 50 million for the establishment of a planning, monitoring, and evaluation cell at MoST, and Rs. 27 million for the support of scientific societies in Pakistan through financial contributions.

The government has proposed spending Rs. 200 million to start STEM projects in Pakistan and Rs. 430 million for the gene editing of biological agents for nutritional, biochemical, and therapeutic purposes.

In addition to the projects mentioned above, funding has also been requested for the Medical Equipment & Devices Innovation Center, Monitoring of Sea Water, National Digital Archive of Research Published in Pakistan, Science Talent Farming Scheme, Semiconductor Chip Design Facilitation Centre, Strengthening of Oceanographic Research, and other initiatives.
