Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute has made a significant stride in generative artificial intelligence with the launch of Falcon 180B, a powerful large language model. Building upon the success of the Falcon 40B, this advanced model is poised to elevate generative AI capabilities in the region.

Faisal Al-Bannai, the secretary-general of the Advanced Technology Research Council, emphasized Falcon’s transformative impact on the AI landscape, emphasizing that its potential benefits should be accessible to all. Al-Bannai stated, “We are committed to democratizing access to advanced AI, as our privacy and the potential impact of AI on humanity should not be controlled by a select few.”

Large language generative AI models like Falcon 180B possess the ability to generate human-like text, translate languages, and produce various forms of creative content, among other tasks. These models undergo extensive training on vast datasets of text and code, finding applications in research, commercial ventures, and education.

The Falcon 180B is offered as an open access model for both research and commercial purposes, further solidifying the UAE’s prominence in AI technology. Developers claim that Falcon 180B has outperformed competitors in various benchmarks, positioning it as a leading model for diverse applications, from chatbots to code generation.

With over 12 million developers already adopting the initial Falcon release, the upgrade is anticipated to become the go-to model for a wide array of domains. Falcon 180B demonstrates impressive proficiency in languages including English, German, Spanish, and French, with additional capabilities in Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Romanian, Czech, and Swedish.

Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei, the executive director and acting chief researcher of the AI Cross-Center Unit at the TII, expressed enthusiasm about Falcon 180B’s launch.
