STAFF REPORT ISB: Sapphire Wind Power Companys (SWPCL) 52.8 megawatt wind power plant has started its commercial operations.
Located at Jhimpir, the plant achieved this landmark at the successful conclusion of seven-day reliability test run witnessed by officials of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and Central Purchase Power Agency (CPPA).
Hydro China, a Chinese EPC contractor using 33×1.6 megawatt GE wind turbines, constructed the power plant.
Consistent government policy and support enabled the stakeholders to proactively pool resources and set a new record commissioning time for wind projects in Pakistan.
Around $95 million debt financing was secured for the project from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and the US. Both Sapphire Textile and Bank Alfalah are committed to further expanding their footprint in the renewable energy sector in Pakistan.
