STAFF REPORT IBD: For the development of science and technology in Pakistan we have meagre resources and challenges are huge so in this regard, the support of international community both at financial and technological levels will be a source of relief for us.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid said this during a recently held meeting with UNESCO delegation led by Assistant Director General Dr Qian Tang.

Science and Technology Secretary Aklaq Ahmad Tarar and Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman Dr Manzoor H Soomro were also present in the meeting.

They discussed matters of mutual interests. Appreciating UNESCO?s role in promotion of science, culture and educational activities in Pakistan, the minister said that UNESCO is very active in Pakistan for the popularisation of science.

He quoted some joint ventures such as UNESCO?s Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programmes Collaboration with the Pakistan Science Foundation in World Science Day every year and collaboration in preparation and documentation of the whale shark specimens.

?We have a full-fledged chapter regarding the science and technology policy, particularly in the emerging technologies like, nano technology, biotechnology and fuel cell technology. We have our action plan also to reorient the RandD activities according to the need of the day,? he added.
