STAFF REPORT IBD: The Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) has played a leading role in the lunch of Halal Food accreditation scheme which has increased the demand of Pakistani products not only at local level but also in the Muslim countries.


During a briefing given to Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, it was told that PNC has an important role in the World Trade Organization (WTO) regime.


Director General PNAC Khalid Mahmood explained about the activities of PNAC and its international recognition by having Mutual Recognition Arrangement with international and regional organizations and the benefits for the accredited organizations.


The minister appreciated the Pakistan National Accreditation Council role saying in this globalized world, the importance of standard and quality of products increased many times to compete in the international market.


He urged that necessary steps be taken to accredit the Medical Laboratories. The Federal Minister emphasized to enhance the capacity of PNAC by necessary trainings and its participation in the obligatory meetings.


Federal Secretary Akhlaq Ahmed Tarrar was also present on the occasion, who apprised the federal minister about the importance of the role of PNAC as a National Accreditation Body.
