STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technology (PCRET) has started an awareness campaign to install biogas plants in rural areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.


PCRET has kicked off the drive awareness campaign, in the wake of growing need of fuel gas, in rural areas where farmers have three to four cows or buffalos to install biogas plants in their houses to fulfil domestic demand.


The department would provide subsidy and technical support for biogas plant,? said the official sources.


Besides, the Pakistan Science Club is also promoting a biogas plant installation in the country. PSC has published many articles and biogas plant construction and video tutorials, President PSC Abdul Rauf told the media.


He said that a home biogas plant saves 32litres of kerosene oil or 2.5 tons of wood annually, thus lessening environmental pollution, adding use of biogas at home can help prevent lung and kidney problems.


Besides, more than 2,800 domestic biogas plants had already been installed in different cities during last four years, the official said.


Around 553 plants had been installed in Jhang, 481 in Faisalabad, 343 in Toba Tek Singh, 186 in Khushab, 153 in Chiniot, 151 in Sahiwal, 79 in Sheikhupura, 66 in Nankana Sahib, 40 in Pakpattan, 38 in Gujranwala and 19 in Okara.
