STAFF REPORT LHR: As many as 580,000 acres of land has been brought under cotton cultivation in Punjab this year against the target of 9.6 million bales of cotton.

Agriculture experts, while talking to the media here, said that the per acre yield of cotton in Pakistan is less as compared to that of other cotton producing countries. The main reason of less produce has been the attack of insects and different worms, they added.

The experts have urged the growers to carry out pest scouting to counter the attacks of worms and insects.

Attack of American worm, Army worm, Red worm and others could pose a serious threat to cotton production experts suggested the growers to properly check the crop twice a week.

According to them, the authorities need to come forward by taking more effective steps to control the spread of cotton diseases so that the per acre yield is boosted significantly.
