STAFF REPORT IBD: The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has recently conducted a two-day training workshop on water testing in the laboratories in Pakistan.


According to a statement issued here by the UNIDO, the workshop was organised to cater to the needs of laboratory staff working at the various laboratories of Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) located across Pakistan.


The event was attended by the technical staff members from PCRWR, Punjab Food Authority and National Reference Laboratory for Poultry Diseases (NRLPD).


The two international experts, Dr Upali Samarajeewa and Subadra Jayasinghe, conducted the training session.


It covered areas such as steps necessary for laboratory accreditation, elements of the quality and technical manuals and record keeping and calibration. The training was specially conducted on the request of PCRWR to enable the laboratories of PCRWR working in various cities for the provision of water-testing services.


According to fresh statistics, the contaminated water especially in mega urban areas has become a major source of water borne diseases which claim thousands of lives every year.
