STAFF REPORT IBD:Australian High Commissioner, Peter Heyward, has said that his country is committed to strengthen the relationship with Pakistan and its people especially through promoting and encouraging education in his country.

He said this while congratulating the 58 Pakistani professionals who have been awarded scholarships to undertake Masters level study at Australian universities in 2014 through the Australia awards.

The recipients will soon depart to take up their studies at some of Australias top universities.

A total of 83 Pakistani professionals have been selected to undertake training in Australia in 2014 for masters (58) and short course awards (25). Another 24 short course awards will be offered in the field of irrigation and water resource management in 2014.

“The aim of Australia awards in Pakistan is to improve the delivery of services through human resource capacity development,” Heyward said.

The Australias aid programme in Pakistan focuses on health, education and agriculture. The 2014 scholars will study subjects agreed with the Govt of Pakistan that address key development needs including maternal, neonatal and child health, primary education, food security, agriculture and governance. They are developing knowledge and skills while building enduring people-to-people links between the two countries. Students are required to return to Pakistan at the completion of their study.
