STAFF REPORT RWP: Awais Haider has become the youngest scholar to be admitted in the Quaid-i-Azam Universitys PhD programme and that too in Quantum Physics.
The 26-year old Awais, who belongs to a middle class from Rawalpindis Satellite Town, was too happy to inform this scribe about his selection for Quantum Physics in the QAU.
“PhD is not an end. It is a means to an end. I want to pursue to Germany or the US for further studies and that is possible only through scholarship. There is a wider scope with regard to moving further in Quantum Physics in the foreign institutes,” he said.
Here in Pakistan, our knowledge of the Quantum Physics is all theatrical while in foreign institutions you learn about their practical application,” Awais said. “You can generate electricity upto 700,000 Megawatt with the help of Quantum Physics by working on solar cell which has been subject of my research in MPhil,” explained Awais. “Our electricity shortfall can be reduced from 70 percent to 80 percent with the help of the solar cell. But we need to work on others and provide universities with generous funding,” Awais said.
About his personal motivation, he said that his supervisor Dr Farhan Saif had received his degree from the same institution where Einstein studied i.e. Ulm University Germany.
