STAFF REPORT FSD: Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST) Chairperson Dr Mudassar Israr has demanded of the government to allocate at least one per cent of the GDP for research and development as currently only 0.3 per cent of the GDP is being spent on it.

Addressing a function organised by the UAF Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation in the city, she said that Japan is spending five per cent of the GDP on research and development. She said the research budget has been slashed 100 per cent. It was Rs 2 billion two years ago and now it is Rs 1 billion, she added.She also said that it was a matter of pride that the UAF has emerged top ranked university of the country. She said that active participation of women in science and technology is vital to progress. She said that the PCST was taking all-out efforts to ensure the participation of women in scientific activities.
