MONITORING REPORT ISB: The Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy has recently held the Second Annual South Asia Biosafety Conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The annual conference was collaborated by the Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) South Asia Biosafety Programme (SABP) with support from National Science Foundation (NSF), Coordinating Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI), the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.

The objective of the conference was to provide an unparalleled opportunity for scientists, regulators and policy makers in South Asia to meet and discuss issues relevant to the risk assessment and regulation of genetically engineered organisms with a regional focus.

On the occasion, the distinguished scientists and experts from various countries gave their presentations on new developments that are being used to inform the safety assessment of GE organisms.
