STAFF REPORT ISB: The Allama Iqbl Open University (AIOU) has decided to strengthen its faculty of sciences to promote research-based activities and acquaint the students with new developments in the field of science and technology.

“Purpose of this initiative is encourage and motivate students to come out with new innovations in their relevant disciplines to meet the contemporary needs,” said Vice Chancellor AIOU Dr Shahid Siddiqui at a training workshop.

The workshop is a part skilled-based training series, being arranged by the University on regular basis for capacity building.

Dr. Siddiqui said that the university has possessed most modern laboratory for the students of Physics.

He announced that a central computer lab would also be established soon to facilitate the students and the faculty members. The AIOU is striving to build and establish highest standards of quality education, while focusing on professional development, revision of curriculum and students support system, he added.

He commended the achievements of Physics department, hoping it will further grow with a passage of time.

Currently, the AIOUs physics department is offering face-to-face study programs for M Ss and M.Phil students.

Earlier, Department of Physics Chairman, Dr. Syed ZafarIlyas, highlighted the objectives of the workshop and achievements of the department in the recent years.

Annually, the department is producing around 40 research publications, he said.
