STAFF REPORT ISB: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has busted an illegal gateway exchange in Hangu.

According to details, a successful raid against the grey operator was carried out along with FIA team at Hangu. An illegal exchange comprising six Gateways, multiple ports, hundreds of SIMs, three Laptop, five modems, one CPU and UPS with batteries were confiscated. Two persons were arrested and were in FIA custody for further investigation.

In order to curb grey trafficking, the authority had asked phone users to report incoming international calls on their devices that show up as local numbers.

In grey trafficking, legal routes are bypassed and the international calls are made using illegal route, due to which government bear huge financial losses.

A legal call coming into Pakistan should display the correct number with the correct country code. A free SMS service has been announced by PTA for users to report such activity round-the-clock. To register a complaint, phone users can report the suspected number by messaging its digits at the complaint centre.
