STAFF REPORT ISB: The second International Conference on “Power Generation Systems and Renewable Energy Technologies” was held, organized by Mechanical Engineering Department, Islamic International University Islamabad (IIUI). The conference objectives were to explore the horizons by which renewable energy technologies could be promoted in country in order to meet the rapidly increasing energy demand.


Dr Samar Mubarakmand, Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) and Underground Coal Gasification (UCG), was also present on the occasion. He while addressing to the participants of conference urged government support to consider alternative energy sources such as coal, nuclear, solar, wind, biomass in order to account for country`s accelerating energy demand in concord with environment sustainability protocols.


Dr Samar specifically stressed that developed countries were already getting major share of energy from coal but Pakistan is still lagging behind in this race and immense coal reserves are yet to be exploited for their utilization in energy and power sector.
