STAFF REPORT KHI: An MoU has been signed between NUST and Component Implementation Unit-Trucking of Pakistan Sustainable Transport project. Purpose of the agreement is to provide research oriented technical support to strengthen the institutional capacity of the relevant federal and provincial government departments to promote the sustainable transport initiatives in Pakistan.


The MoU would facilitate the project team on the objective of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption from the transport sector with technical assistance from the academia and subject experts.


The MoU was signed by Ministry of Water and Power Additional Secretary and National Project Director PAKSTRAN Project Hasan Nasir Jammy and NUST School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE) Principal Dr Tariq Mahmood.


National Project Manager Saleem Janjua informed that the PAKSTRAN project through collaborative arrangements with potential national and international partners is providing technical assistance to the government of Pakistan for implementation of Bus Rapid Transit initiatives and the modernisation of trucking sector.


Director Roads and Director of CIU-Trucking PAKSTRAN project Hameed Akhtar briefed that PAKSTRAN is providing technical support to the ministry of communications in the formulation of guidelines and technical standards for modernisation of truck freight sector.


Component Manager of CIU-Trucking PAKSTRAN project Irfan Haider organised the MoU signing ceremony and was contributing towards achieving the project outcomes efficiently.
