STAFF REPORT LHR: Information Technology Universitys Scientometrics Lab (SLAB) has launched quality research rankings of over 200 universities and research institutions of Pakistan.


According to the rankings, Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad topped the overall ranking followed by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, University of Agriculture (UAG) Faisalabad, NUST, University of the Punjab, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), University of Karachi, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), and Government College University (GCU).


The ITU-QRR also issued rankings of specialised institutions of Pakistan. Agha Khan University topped the category followed by PIEAS, LUMS, National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Pakistan, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), NED University of Engineering and Technology Pakistan, University of Sindh, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila, NWFP Agricultural University, and University of Arid Agriculture.


ITU Vice Chancellor Dr Umar Saif said that ITU quality research rankings is distinctive because it only aggregates work published in top research journals and conferences. It uses international criteria to rank Pakistani institutions in terms of real quality and impact.


ITU Scientometrics Lab head Dr Saeedul Hassan said that ITU quality research ranking is a first step that will go a long way to start a culture of quality research in Pakistan.


It is based on international quality research publications in Pakistani institutions, which would be helpful in promotion of research culture in Pakistan.
