ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal has
directed the authorities concerned to use space technology for mega projects initiated under the
CPEC in order to ensure their planned execution
“Accurate research and new technology based solutions are required to monitor mega
development projects for their timely completion,” Ahsan said while chairing a high-level
meeting of officers of the Project Wing at Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms.
He also urged the need for seeking help from SUPARCO in this regard. The minister said that
monitoring and execution of development projects was a key function of the Planning
Commission and the department should play the role of a watchdog.
The minister further said that quarterly reviews and release of funds for the projects should be
linked with their monitoring reports. He emphasized that monitoring systems be strengthened to
achieve the targets.
He said that delay in projects completion affected its contribution to the economic growth and
resulted in the wastage of resources.
Highlighting the importance of project management he said, “We donand#39;t need archives but
information for decision making. He added that monitoring outcomes should be used for
devising training programmes for Pakistan Planning and Management Institute (PPMI) to
improve and enhance expertise in project management”.
