A facilitation desk has been established by K-Electric. K-Electric has established the desk to receive applications from eligible residential, commercial and industrial customers interested in availing Net-Metering facility.

NEPRA’s Net-Metering guidelines were kept in mind before setting up the desk. The desk will facilitate customers to obtain a license and to sell their excess electricity back to the power utility. The customer eligible for this facility are all KE residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers having a 3-phase connection at 400V to 11 kV. After the approval of the application exported energy will be netted off against imported energy and charged as a prevailing tariff.

The process of application is made user-friendly with necessary information. The forms are available on the website of KE that is www.ke.com.pk/NetMetering. The dedicated team of the desk will serve as only point of contact for customers for entire net-metering application process.

Per K-Electric’s Spokesperson said that applications are being accepted from consumers to sell their excess electricity produced from solar PV panels or solar generators through K-Electric’s website for detailed guidelines.

The power utility and a bidirectional meter will be installed after the approval of an application that enables customer to sell excess energy.

After the application is approved by the power utility and a bi-directional meter is installed, the consumer can start selling excess energy. Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) approved vendors can install the solar PV Equipment. AEDB is a statutory organization established by Federal Government Power Division to facilitate, promote and encourage development of Renewable Energy in Pakistan.

K-Electric is ensuring provision of affordable and reliable energy solutions by inclusion of renewable sources in its fuel mix. K-Electric and Oursun Pakistan Limited has signed an energy purchase agreement (EPA) for a 50MW solar power project and will be start commercial operation in 2018.
