STAFF REPORT LHR: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has terminated Farooq Awan, the Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) giving a ruling that the appointment of Chairman was illegal and was against the law.

The court gave its ruling by disposing of a petition was filed by Khawaja Saad Saleem of Nayatel and challenged the appointment of Farooq Awan as Chairman PTA. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court declared as illegal and cancelled the appointment of Farooq as PTA chief.

In the petition it was said that the appointment of Farooq Ahmad Awan as Chairman PTA is on political basis and no merit is considered in considered in this regard. The petitioner requested the court to declare the appointment as null and void.

Farooq Awan was appointed as Chairman PTA on Auguest last. He was probably knowing all the situation that was why he was not coming to the office for last over one month.

Following the shaky political situation in the country, it is still hard to say who will be the net PTA chairman. However, according to sources, Kamran Ali and Khawar Siddique are the constants candidate for next Chairman PTA.
