AKU launch think-tank to rethink deadly NCDs policyIn order to address the peril mounting issue, Aga Khan University (AKU) health professionals have launched a new think-tank “AKUPI-NCD” in collaboration with experts from a variety of sectors that will integrate approaches to halt the menace of NCDs in the country.

According to World Health organization (WHO), Pakistan is lagging far behind to tackle the long lasting consequences of non-communicable diseases.

NCD are basically a set of enduring illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, cancer, diabetes and mental disorders that are mainly caused by looming environmental factors such as pollution and sprawl.

Aga khan University, Professor Zainab Samad, stated that “NCDs aren’t a problem for the healthcare sector alone. These diseases have complex causes and long-lasting consequences and their costs to society extend far beyond lost productivity and stunted economic growth.”

AKU’s Professor Wasay, chaired the initiative in three areas: education and training, policy advocacy and awareness, and research. Stated that ;

“NCDs are preventable, Efforts to anticipate their onset must begin at home at an early age”

AKU NCDs are a silent killer that continue to go unnoticed. Considering the alarming destroyer, think tank initiative is a very productive step towards the healthier environ of a nation.
