World Bank funded $3.8 million to protect forests and controlling their shrinkage under the REDD+ programme to Pakistan.

“As long as forests remain to sliced down we cannot protect ourselves from reckoning impacts of global warming based on climate change. Climate shield against consequences of the climate change can be enhanced by increasing forest, ” said an official of the Ministry of Climate Change to a media.

Major causes of deforestation in the country are the absence of access to energy for cooking and heating in households, prohibited tree cutting, population growth and associated wood demand gush, land cover changes for non-forestry uses, land erosion and degradation.

“It is impossible to control deforestation without increasing access to renewable and alternative energy sources, predominantly for cooking and heating in households, reducing land erosion and landslides by establishment of forested mountain slopes having vegetation cover and most important growing awareness of public about forests and overall positive effects on environment, human health and biodiversity.”

Participation of local and indigenous forest community, community-based organizations, and educational institutions is essential for bringing new life into the country’s ailing forestry sector, he said to a question.
